Spring weather is here, its 60 in Chicago today! We are so happy that warmer weather is on the way because our modeling agency and models will be so busy, this week has been non stop. Pink Avenue Models is working on casting the lead model for a music video that will be shot in Los Angeles in a few weeks. We also have models working at the upcoming International Home and Housewares Show starting March 14th. We have a lot of things coming up for America’s Beauty Show which is my favorite show of the year. March has been great and we are looking forward to Spring and Summer.

I know that Pink Avenue Models blogs a lot about our expectations and rules of working promotions. We also mention what every promotional model should have in their closet but I don’t think we ever mentioned where to get these items for cheap. Today I have been researching popular stores to get the cheapest prices on the items that models will need when working events. Some of these basic items are less than $10! Have fun shopping!

Black skirt. This is a must! You can dress this up and look professional at a trade show but you can also use it while working liquor promotions. I found one at Forever 21 for only $5.50!

Khaki shorts. These will be a requirement for brand ambassadors in the summer. Old Navy is a good place to go for khaki shorts and they will cost around $20. Aeropostale will also have them for about $25, and American Eagle $35. Make sure when making this purchase that the shorts are not too short or too tight.

Black heels. Every model should have a pair of simple black closed toe shoes. Gojane.com has shoes for about $23 and Charlotte Russe has great shoes for about the same price. Another good place to go for name brand shoes at cheap prices is T J Maxx or Marshalls.

Khaki pants/black pants. Models will wear these all the time! It’s best to go to a department store for these and you can usually find them on sale. Old Navy would be a good place to go as well.

White button down shirt. This is requested a lot at trade shows. H&M is a great place to go. You should be able to find one there for less than $20.

Little black dress. A must! This is worn at trade shows, charity events, bar promotions and other events. Models can get a simple dress from Charlotte Russe, Wet Seal, Forever 21 , H&M, Urban Outfitters, Victoria’s Secret, or Macy’s. Prices can range from $20 -$80. Buy one that fits great and makes you feel amazing.

I hope our shopping tips helped you all. Never spend a lot of money on these things, look good at an affordable price.

I noticed that a lot more of our clients and other modeling agencies are starting to interview their potential models more these days. This is great news and something we have done for a while. It is always nice to know all you can about your models and the only way to find out is to ask. We are going to start posting some common interview questions and the best answers too help you have a perfect interview.

Q. Why should we hire you?

A. You should answer this by complementing yourself  by showing your strengths without bashing anyone else. We would love to hear… I think that I would be a great fit for this promotion because I have past experience working events like this. I have an outgoing personality, love meeting new people and am professional and reliable.

Q. What would you do if another model doesn’t show up?

A. People ask this because it happens all the time and we want to know that you can handle the event if this happens. The perfect answer for this would be… I would first call my contact person from the agency and tell them that we are missing a model.  (The agent is the only person that can find a replacement.) After that I would continue setting up and getting ready to execute the promotion. The promotion always has to go on and I will do my best to make the situation as good as it can be.

This is just the first of many blogs to come. Always have confidence in yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself how will clients and your contacts at modeling agencies?

Today I found out about a magazine that I wish I would’ve known about a long time ago. Michigan Avenue Magazine is a must read for anyone interested in the modeling and fashion industry. This magazine has great articles, awesome fashion and shopping advice and a list of all the “must attend” events, it is a luxury magazine with a Chicago point of view. This month Joanna Krupa is on the cover and she looks amazing. She is one of my favorite models and actually grew up in Chicago. You can check out the magazine at www.michiganavemag.com or subscribe for $55 a year.

Feb 25

January and February are slow months in the promotional world but with February coming to an end and the busy season starting soon I thought I would point out a few reminders to our promotional models. Working in the modeling industry is fun but models have to remember it is a job and needs to be taken seriously. Here are a few things to remember while out working an event.

  1. Show up on time which means 15 minutes early. Come to the event dressed to impress with hair and make up ready. You were hired as a model, models are attractive.
  2. Leave all of your problems at the door. Models are hired based on looks but are expected to have a fun and outgoing personality as well. Never show a negative attitude, the client and consumers will pick up on this fast. Don’t act like a diva either, modeling agencies and clients hate this!
  3. Have the necessary attire. Promotional models/brand ambassadors should all have black pants, black skirt, khaki pants, comfortable heels, gym shoes, and a black dress in their closet. This is the attire that most clients request but may occasionally be different.
  4. Represent the brand. While working for a client you love their product and you have to express that to consumers. This doesn’t mean you say negative things about competitors but it does mean that you have only positive things to say about the client you are representing. Know the product and if you don’t know something don’t make up the answer.
  5. Remember to fill out all of the required paperwork provided by your modeling agency before the event. This will help you get paid on time and makes you look responsible to the agency that hired you.
  6. Have all of the contact information with you. This means the onsite contact and the agency contact.
  7. Have fun! Promotions are meant to be fun, smile, work and make money.

Promotions are going to start to pick up and Pink Avenue Models expects to be extremely busy the rest of the year. We want our models to want to work and we need them to show up, look great, have fun and represent  the brand the best they can. We are looking forward to the rest of 2010!

Pink Avenue Models gets a lot of phone calls from people with general questions. Usually it’s models asking questions about how they can work with us or what do we do. Here are some of our most frequently asked questions answered.

1. Do we host open calls? Pink Avenue Models does not host open calls at this time. Our schedule is so unpredictable that it would be impossible to have a day for open calls. We take all of our model submissions online and go from there. We are looking for reliable, beautiful, fun models with tons of personality. Experience is a plus but not required, we understand that models have to start somewhere.

2. After submitting my information does that mean that I am a Pink Avenue Model? Unfortunately we do not accept everyone. Pink Avenue Models is not looking to create a database of 100,000 models. We like to know our models and know that we are sending the best talent to our clients. Our models take their work seriously and see modeling as their career.

3. How will I be notified of jobs from Pink Avenue Models? Pink Avenue Models will contact all models that fit the description that the client is looking for. We do not use an automated system, you will be contacted directly by a Pink Avenue employee. The client always makes the final decision.

4. Do you work with kids or plus size models? It’s not the most common request from a client but it has happened. This is why Pink Avenue Models does not have height, size or age requirements. Every client is looking for something different and we try our best to provide our clients with what they need.

5. How much does it cost to be part of your agency? Nothing! Models should never pay a modeling agency. We hire models for events, trade shows, print ads, street teams and whatever else a client needs. We would never ask a model for money upfront and we would never take a cut of their paychecks either.

I hope these answers helped and if you have any other questions about Pink Avenue Models or our services feel free to call 312-993-7991.

This week we had an event in Los Angeles with one of our Spanish speaking models, Jazmin. She worked at the Banco Popular event at the Ritz in Marina Del Rey. Jazmin was hired as a hostess and did an amazing job. Thank you so much for working!
