Tomorrow is Lab Day in Chicago and it will take place at the Sheraton. Lab Day started in 1985 and has been growing ever since.  There will be over 200 exhibitors and around 3000 attendees at tomorrow’s event. Lab Day has become one the most highly attended trade shows in North America for this industry. Tomorrow exhibitors will debut new materials, products, equipment and services that are necessary in the dental industry. The exhibit hall will be open tomorrow and there will be clinics throughout the day.  One of our clients will be exhibiting at the show and has selected our model Kelly Marie to assist them. Have a great show everyone and enjoy Chicago.

January and February are slow months in the promotional world but with February coming to an end and the busy season starting soon I thought I would point out a few reminders to our promotional models. Working in the modeling industry is fun but models have to remember it is a job and needs to be taken seriously. Here are a few things to remember while out working an event.

  1. Show up on time which means 15 minutes early. Come to the event dressed to impress with hair and make up ready. You were hired as a model, models are attractive.
  2. Leave all of your problems at the door. Models are hired based on looks but are expected to have a fun and outgoing personality as well. Never show a negative attitude, the client and consumers will pick up on this fast. Don’t act like a diva either, modeling agencies and clients hate this!
  3. Have the necessary attire. Promotional models/brand ambassadors should all have black pants, black skirt, khaki pants, comfortable heels, gym shoes, and a black dress in their closet. This is the attire that most clients request but may occasionally be different.
  4. Represent the brand. While working for a client you love their product and you have to express that to consumers. This doesn’t mean you say negative things about competitors but it does mean that you have only positive things to say about the client you are representing. Know the product and if you don’t know something don’t make up the answer.
  5. Remember to fill out all of the required paperwork provided by your modeling agency before the event. This will help you get paid on time and makes you look responsible to the agency that hired you.
  6. Have all of the contact information with you. This means the onsite contact and the agency contact.
  7. Have fun! Promotions are meant to be fun, smile, work and make money.

Promotions are going to start to pick up and Pink Avenue Models expects to be extremely busy the rest of the year. We want our models to want to work and we need them to show up, look great, have fun and represent  the brand the best they can. We are looking forward to the rest of 2010!

Pink Avenue Models gets a lot of phone calls from people with general questions. Usually it’s models asking questions about how they can work with us or what do we do. Here are some of our most frequently asked questions answered.

1. Do we host open calls? Pink Avenue Models does not host open calls at this time. Our schedule is so unpredictable that it would be impossible to have a day for open calls. We take all of our model submissions online and go from there. We are looking for reliable, beautiful, fun models with tons of personality. Experience is a plus but not required, we understand that models have to start somewhere.

2. After submitting my information does that mean that I am a Pink Avenue Model? Unfortunately we do not accept everyone. Pink Avenue Models is not looking to create a database of 100,000 models. We like to know our models and know that we are sending the best talent to our clients. Our models take their work seriously and see modeling as their career.

3. How will I be notified of jobs from Pink Avenue Models? Pink Avenue Models will contact all models that fit the description that the client is looking for. We do not use an automated system, you will be contacted directly by a Pink Avenue employee. The client always makes the final decision.

4. Do you work with kids or plus size models? It’s not the most common request from a client but it has happened. This is why Pink Avenue Models does not have height, size or age requirements. Every client is looking for something different and we try our best to provide our clients with what they need.

5. How much does it cost to be part of your agency? Nothing! Models should never pay a modeling agency. We hire models for events, trade shows, print ads, street teams and whatever else a client needs. We would never ask a model for money upfront and we would never take a cut of their paychecks either.

I hope these answers helped and if you have any other questions about Pink Avenue Models or our services feel free to call 312-993-7991.

This week we had an event in Los Angeles with one of our Spanish speaking models, Jazmin. She worked at the Banco Popular event at the Ritz in Marina Del Rey. Jazmin was hired as a hostess and did an amazing job. Thank you so much for working!

I feel like it’s been a while since we gave a Pink Avenue Models update. So what is your favorite Chicago Modeling Agency up to lately? Well so far 2010 has been great! We booked some big trade shows nationwide last month, and staffed events for the Super Bowl and NBA All Star game so far this month. January and February are usually the slowest months in this industry but we have been busy and are very grateful for that. We have so many great events coming up and have been meeting with a lot of new clients. 2010 is definitely our year and we are so excited!

Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for daily updates on our events, models, and anything else in this industry.

I feel a little weird writing about Spring fashion because there is a bunch of snow outside and more to come. Spring is coming soon, just a few months until warmer weather, longer sunny days and less clothing! Here are a few things that the fashion experts are saying will be in next season. These looks have been worn by models in almost every runway show and will be seen in stores very shortly. Make sure you go pick up a few of these new trendy items.

  1. Tie dye. Sounds so eighties but it is definitely making a comeback. It will come in tank tops, t shirts and dresses this season.
  2. Fold over necklines. Not as sexy as off the shoulder, but not as conservative as a v neck. It’s perfectly in the middle.
  3. Vests. They made a huge comeback a few years ago this year they are bigger than ever.
  4. Draped dresses. So easy to wear and be worn dressy or casual. A must have in every girls closet.
  5. Bright yellow. This is the color this Spring. The brighter the better. If you feel yellow isn’t your color use it in your accessories instead of clothing.
  6. Gray. Every shade of gray. Gray is easy to wear and looks great in the office or on the beach.
  7. Printed dresses. More pattern is good!
  8. Military jackets. This is a great lightweight jacket and a necessity this spring.
  9. Polka dots. Not one of my favorites but it looks like they are coming back.
  10. Pastels. These colors will come in everything.
  11. Multistrap and cut out dresses. Lost of straps, and missing pieces, so sexy this season.

There are 11 must have items of the season. All models love shopping!

The Winter Olympics are going on right now in Vancouver so I thought it would be appropriate to tie that in with today’s blog.  I don’t think that many people enjoy working out but it is definitely a requirement for models. Here are a few tips from Olympic Athletes that really work and will keep you in great shape. Go USA!!

  1. Mix things up. If you do the same work out routine everyday you will get bored and unmotivated. Bring a friend for support and entertainment.
  2. Make sure you eat. Skipping meals isn’t good for you and will leave you tired at the end of the day. Always have snacks with you.
  3. Drink water and stay hydrated. Drinking other beverages is just drinking empty calories.
  4. When working out make sure that you are in proper form and using the right technique. This is important to get the best results.
  5. Don’t push to hard. Your muscles need rest.
  6. Sweating is necessary.  Models don’t enjoy this but it shows your work out is working.
  7. Pay attention to your body. Everyone is different and you have to know what works best for you.

That is some advice from some of the Olympic Athletes that are in Vancouver right now. I always here girls talk about extra belly weight or that they feel big. Well here are a few things that are giving you this belly fat, I bet you weren’t aware that these things could do this to you.

  1. Skipping meals. You may think this is a fast way to lose weight but it’s not. When you skip meals you are more likely to binge eat the next time you eat. Eating every 3-4 hours is the best thing to do.
  2. You try to be a vegetarian which cuts out a lot of protein. Protein is needed to speed up your metabolism. Cutting out meat, and dairy is not a good idea. Just go for low fat items in these food groups.
  3. Skipping bread. White bread is bad but whole grain is great for you. Eating whole grain is good for your insulin levels.
  4. Crunches and sit ups will never get rid of the layer of fat, cardio will.
  5. Drinking. Alcohol has a lot of calories. Binge drinking adds weight, drink wine if you have to have a drink. We all have those days.
  6. Stay away from lite or fat free products. There are a lot of artificial fillers in there that actually help you gain weight.

Stay happy, eat healthy, get lots of sleep and excercise regularly.

The modeling and fashion industries lost a very important person over the weekend. Alexander McQueen was born on March 16, 1969 and died February 11, 2010.  He was a young  British designer that had every celebrity wearing his line, including Nicole Kidman, Rhianna, Sara Jessica Parker and even Lady Gaga. Not to mention all of the models that he worked with over his career.  Alexander McQueen won the British Designer of  the Year award 4 times and was one of the youngest designers to ever win. He had boutiques in Milan, London, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and New York. He was creative, an amazing designer and pushed the limits in the fashion world. He will be missed.
