A model’s reputation is one of the most important things she can have. People talk in this industry, a lot, so make sure that they only have good things to say. A model is known to be reliable, outgoing, beautiful, smart and have an amazing personality, make sure you live up to the stereotype.

Here are a few ways to keep you reputation clean and classy.

1.Choose your photoshoots wisely. Never pose nude unless that is what you want to be known for. Once you have taken naked pictures that is all people will want from you. You should never send nude pictures to clients because they will look at you in a unprofessional way. Make sure that your portfolio is full of great headshots, nice bodyshots and pictures that show your personality. Try not to send photoshopped pictures, clients and modeling agencies are very disappointed when models don’t look like their pictures.

2. Take your job seriously. Show up to the event, show up on time dressed and ready to work. Never show up to a promotion without your hair and make up done! Clients do not appreciate when models are late to an event with a lame excuse. Yes things do happen but when you are showing up late constantly it shows that you don’t care and that you are not taking your job seriously.

3. Never pull a no-show. This will get you blacklisted from a company really fast. If you are booked by an agency or client this means that you have been chosen over other models that really want to work. You were chosen for a reason. If you can’t work or just don’t want to be smart and let the agency know so they can find a replacement. When a model doesn’t show up it ruins the event, disappoints the client and makes the agency look bad.

4. Be prepared. Make sure that you have professional pictures and an updated resume, this is how you get jobs. When you get new pictures send them to the agencies that you work for. Update your resume after every event, we want to know what you have been doing lately not what you did last year.

5.Never talk bad about a client or agency that you are working for, we will find out.

Follow these 5 steps and you will be the favorite model of every agency!

Promotional models are known to live a unique and easy life. Models make their own schedule, have a  job that they enjoy, get tons of free stuff, meet a lot of fun people and make good money doing it. Promotional models get to work a different event every shift at a new location promoting a new product so the job never gets boring. Sounds exciting!

Did I mention that models also get tax deductions on things like haircuts, tanning, trips to the nail salon, clothing that was bought for a trade show or photoshoot, facials, gas and so much more.  It costs a lot to look beautiful, but when you are a model that is your job and it’s required.

Being a promotional model comes with a little bit of fame. At most events you will be center of attention and everyone will want to get their pictures taken with you. Sometimes you are even asked to sign autographs. It is all part of the job. Pictures with fans end up on Facebook, Myspace, and all kinds of websites. This is a reminder that you should always look your best. Working a promotion doesn’t end there. People will recognize you so models should always be on their best behavior.

Working as a promotional model is similar to being a supermodel, in a way. Promotional models can still participate in runway shows, commercials, print ads and a lot are interested in acting as well.  The possibilities are endless, it depends on what your goals are and how hard you would like to work.

Promotional modeling sounds fabulous but there are some downfalls. The worst thing about working in the modeling industry is that you don’t usually get paid every two weeks. Some companies take months to pay and some don’t pay at all. Models have to be very careful of who they are working for. Another downfall is that models have to be happy, energetic and excited even if they are just not in the mood to be at work. It is their job to act excited about what they are doing even if they hate it they have to fake it. Models deal with harassing comments, unusual consumers and sometimes annoying people.  Being a model is sometimes hard work but it all pays off in the end.

The life of a model is  fun, crazy, hard work, and unpredictable but we love it!

Every promotion that a model works is different but what you have to wear is usually the same. If you are involved in promotional modeling now or thinking about getting started here is a list of things that you will need to keep in your closet.

1. Khaki pants and khaki shorts. Almost all of the promotions that happen in the summer will require you to wear these. Get something cute, comfortable but affordable because you will spend a lot of time wearing them.

2. Black pants, black shorts and a short black skirt. A lot of trade shows will require models to wear black pants and a branded shirt provided by the client. Get excited when you are told to wear pants at a trade show, convention halls are always cold and pants will keep you warmer. You can also wear flat shoes if you are allowed to wear pants which is a major plus! Most bar promotions will require a short black skirt or black shorts for a more sexy look. Buy what is comfortable, sexy but no too sexy.

3. Black closed toe shoes. If models are doing an in store demo, serving food, or working an event that wants you to be very conservative and professional these shoes are mandatory.

4. White gym shoes. A lot of street team promotions will ask the models to wear all white gym shoes, make sure you have a pair of these.

5. Natural make up and glamour make up. Some clients want you to look naturally pretty and some ask you to look like you are going to a photo shoot and all glamed up. Make sure you know what looks good on you and remember if the client wants natural wear the smallest amount of make up possible. If the client asks for photo shoot or glam look keep it classy and sexy. Remember to bring a small make up bag that includes all of your necessities, especially lip gloss!

6.Nude underwear. Anytime that a model is sent to a casting or fitting she will be told to bring a nude bra and thong. Make sure you have a set that is as plain as can be and fits perfectly.

7. Black blazer. Models will be asked to wear a black blazer with a white collared shirt at a lot of trade shows. Get something that is cut for your body and fits great. Blazers don’t have to be boring, dress them up and make them look professional and sexy.

8. Big bag. All models have a big bag that they love and bring to every event, promotion, or trade show. If you don’t have one you have to get one. This is a necessity. It is a safe and clean way to store all of the stuff that you bring to the event and comes in handy when the event you are working is giving away free stuff.

If you have all of these items in your closet it is a sign that you are an awesome promotional model and that you take your job seriously, Pink Avenue Models love models like this!

We all know that a Trade Show would not be complete without a Trade Show ModelTrade Show Models are there to attract attention to the booth and company, and represent a specific client. Trade Shows are hard work, long hours and not always the most fun but they do pay well. Here are a few things to remember when working your next Trade Show.

1. Show up dressed, hair and make up done and ready to work. Always be on time. Parking at a convention is not always easy, allow time for everything you need to do before the start of the show.

2. Wear comfortable shoes because you will be standing for 8-9 hours per day. I recommend buying a cute shoe that looks professional but has a low heel. If you are allowed to wear pants wear flats, nobody will notice. Always bring a comfortable pair of shoes to wear when you are leaving the show, makes a big difference!

3. Go to bed early the night before working a trade show. Conventions start early and the hours are long. Being hungover, tired and lazy is going to make the day way longer.

4. We have all heard that models don’t eat. Totally untrue, we love food! The food options at any convention hall are very limited. You will always find a McDonalds and a pizza place but it will be over priced. You are working to make money not spend $10 dollars on pizza. Bring your own lunch, you will save money and get to eat whatever you want.

5. Remember to always smile and be happy even if you arn’t. We all have our days but you can never act negative in front of a client. It makes the model and the agency look bad. You never know who you will meet so remember to greet everyone and if they want to talk with you talk back. If someone says something inappropriate, which happens often, handle it in a mature way. Models are confident people, nothing should be offensive.

6. Remember to represent the client and the agency that you are working for the best you can. That can lead to more work for you and more work for the agency. Pink Avenue Models trusts our models and we don’t want to ever hear negative things about the models we send out. Pink Avenue Models picks the best models, models with tons of personality, beauty and intelligence.

7. Try to have as much fun as you can. Some trade shows can be very fun and exciting, some not so much. Just think of all the free stuff you get to bring home at the end. If it ever gets boring and your feet hurt and you just want to get home just think of all the money you are making and that should make you smile.

These are just a few things that I have learned in the past. If you have any other trade show tips feel free to let us know.
